How does the charity search work?

The charity search feature within the Good2Give Workplace Giving - Employee Giving Centre uses a 'Google style' relevancy search.

In searching for a popular Australian charity, World Vision Australia- the search results will look very similar to below:

How the search determines which results are most relevant?

The keyword search is based on the relevancy of the search text to the charity profile information.

The most relevant search result is displayed first, followed by the next most relevant results shown next.

The search uses the following fields in the Charity profile:

  • Charity name
  • Charity project name
  • Charity keywords
  • Charity descriptions
  • Charity project description
  • Charity mission statement

Practical Example:

In the example above, the search was completed for the text "World Vision Australia". The most relevant search results will be Charities and Charity Projects that have content the same or similar to the search text "World Vision Australia".

The charities/projects that are a partial match, like Vision Australia Royal Blind Society are slightly less relevant as they are not an exact match and are hence displayed lower in the search results.

Charities which match just one word from the search, like Worldshare, will be the lowest in the search results as the match is on just the word 'World'.

If there are more than one charity/project that are a full match on the exact entire search they will be rated on what we call Relevance score. The relevance score counts the number of occurrences of the exact full search within:

  • Charity name
  • Charity project name
  • Charity keywords
  • Charity descriptions
  • Charity project description
  • Charity mission statement

In the search results from earlier World Vision Australia had a higher relevance score than the World Vision Australia (Linking hands) project and so displayed higher in the search results.

Depending on the search text used by the donor and the content of the charity profile, some Charity Projects will appear above or below the actual Charity.
